3&4. Blogs

September 15 & September 22, 2011 - Blogs
Blogs can take the form of a journal, links to other sites, and new pages. Blogs serve as a collaborative communication space between teachers and students. Blogs can be integrated into the curriculum to reflect, write, and share ideas in the classroom.

  1. I was so excited after this class to create my very own class blog. When I got home, I was purging bookmarks I haven't used in years when I found my children's blog. I had created this blog in 2008 and completely forgot about it. Now that I have reunited with my blog I have posted several events. I also talked with a co-worker who has a 6th grade blog already set up and we decided to make it more accessible to the students. Typically we have a few students write a post on specific events we have done that month. After our class I decided it needed to be used more often. I believe the students will love to see their writing posted and if we blog once a week more students will be able to be involved!

  2. This was a great class! I really feel like I've got a respectable blog and I'm eager to apply this knowledge to another blog I'm developing!
My research indicates that writers maintain several blogs. I also need to figure out how to create a class blog. But I've heard loads of ideas!
    Thanks!!!

  3. I am really liking the look of my new blog! I was so afraid to do this as I thought it was one more thing to keep up with. I can see the benefit to having makeup work on this. Today it was such a hassle to get work together for the attendance secretary to get to a parent. I had the thought that I wish I had a blog and could just email the info to the parent. Thinking that might be a change I want to make. One colleague even has pdf files with worksheets on her blog.

  4. I was only able to attend the first blog class, but do have a blog up and running. I love using it to post classroom happenings. I actually have 4 students take photographs using digital cameras throughout the week and then upload two of their favorite photos to the blog and write about them. They just LOVE doing this and I think it helps them feel more connected to their classroom and like they have a voice. The parents have really enjoyed reading it and getting a daily update on our classroom events.
