January 23, 2011: Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is a method that Internet users employ to share, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web resources.

Reflection Question: Please reflect on one of the following questions.

1. How can you use Delicious in your classroom?

2. What are the benefits of using Delicious as an educator?

  1. 1. I want to use Delicious in your classroom by providing parents with good educational websites. Parents do not have time to find sites to help their children. I can help them find typing resources, reading and math resources. Just about anything. Linking this to my blog would allow parents easy access, so they don't have to try to remember where to go.
    2. As an educator, being able to share cool sites without having to actually go out and search them for myself! Hurray! This seems like a great way for a cooperative faculty to help one another. I love the ability to tag items to help sort through them. I can't wait for Camille to come teach my faculty because I can see us really utilize this!!!

  2. I really like Delicious. It is easy to use and because of that I can see having my students use it to access sites that I want them to see and use. Like Indy said, it would be easy to have parents access it from my Wikispace. I also like the idea of using it during school computer lab use as sixth graders like to wander and if they are limited to certain sites that I have selected then I worry less about where they might end up with just Googling. It seems like a more deluxe school folder.
As a teacher it is nice to know that I can see what other educators are doing and I can basically carry my sites with me without carrying my computer with me every where I go.

  3. Indy: I think it's great that you are sharing with the teachers at your school about Delicious. It is a great tool to use for team colloborations. I like Delicious because I have access to my bookmarks anytime, anywhere. Now if I can just remember the password to my account. :o) Thanks for posting.

  4. DBK: I like the idea that Delicious could be used much like our school folders. Once the student is logged in to Delicious i think the site becomes much more powerful and interactive than the school folders especially for older and more technological mature students. In addition, students can't delete and move things around even by accident. Thanks for your post. Wade
